Today is World Sight Day and we are using the opportunity to reflect on our work over the last year and to thank those that have provided grants and support, volunteered and fundraised for ABALON Trust.  The last 12 months have been unprecedented for everyone.

Our international community has been greatly personally affected by COVID-19 and many of us have lost colleagues and loved ones.  Inequalities in health and care provision have been magnified and we have pivoted our work to focus on supporting those we are able to reach.  International travel restrictions have meant planned eye-camps could no longer go ahead, but we have sent medicines and eye health products overseas and focused on providing support to our network in the United Kingdom that has been adversely affected by COVID-19.

In October 2020 we partnered with Living Loss to provide bereavement support to people in the British Caribbean community that had been bereaved.

We raise £3,000 in March 2021 by walking or running 100 miles to raise funds for ABALON Trusts

In May 2020 we received a grant from Power to Change that enabled us to provide health education on the risks of diabetes and hypertension to Black British people at higher risk of COVID-19.

We are now restarting our international work by providing targeted access to eye care for people with sight loss in Buhera, Zimbabwe and providing clinical supplies including glucometers to the Barbados Diabetes Foundation.

We are extremely grateful to our entire community whose support has enable us to achieve this.

Thank you.
