Older people living in high income countries often have the safety net of state-provided or insurance-funded healthcare and a pension.  For older people living in low and middle income countries with little access to eye care, sight-loss can be devastating.  It can lead to a loss of independence with elders becoming more reliant on their families and charity for food, shelter and care.

ABALON Trust funds cataract surgeries and provides medicine for age-rated sight-loss to people living in sub-Saharan Africa and The Caribbean.

The cost of cataract surgery in Kenya or Ghana is £50 GBP / €60 EU / $65 US.
